The Te Kara flag — also known as the United Tribes Flag was the first official flag chosen by Māori rangatira. It represents the declaration of Māori independence, He Whakaputanga, and a collective stand for mana motuhake.

 

Wearing this piece is a reminder of who we are, where we come from, and the authority that’s always been ours. 

Long before the Treaty, Te Kara flew as a bold assertion of sovereignty.
